2014 CYBERFEST, “The Other Home (s)”

 


이번 전시의 키워드는 이다.  “The Other Home (s) : commonalities and differentiations among physical, emotional and cultural manifestations attached to the concept of “home””, 다양한 집(): “이라는 구상의 물질적, 감성적, 그리고 문화적인 유사성과 차별성이란 제목으로 12 12부터 15, 베타니안 (Kunstquartier Bethanien) 과 플라툰(Platoon Kunsthalle)에서 visual artsound art로 나뉘어서 열렸다. 작년, 베를린에 본사를 하나 더 세운  CYBERFESTSt. Petersburg밖에서 처음으로 주최한 전시도 만족스럽고 뉴욕과 도쿄로 네트워크를 넓히는 등, 올해도 계속해서 CYLAND 멤버들이 부지런하게 해외활동 목표로 하고있다. CYLAND는 러시아에서 제일 활발하게 활동중인 New Media Art 비영리 단체로, Marina KoldobskayaAnna Frants St. Petersburg를 러시아의 뉴미디어아트의 본거지로 만들겠다는 미션을 가지고 시작하여 작년부터 글로벌화를 위해 여러가지 시도를 하고있다.

 

베를린은 항상 다양한 문화와 사람들, 아이디어들이 만나는 도시이다. 그래서인지 항상 여러 그룹들의 전시나 공연등이 넘치는 곳이다. CYLAND 그룹 역시 베를린의 그런 매력에 빠져서 St. Petersburg에서 온 러시안 New Media Art 아티스트 들이다. 그런 의미에서, 이 전시는 베를린의 수많은 expat관객들을 겨냥 한것 뿐만 아니라, 타국에서 또다른 커뮤니티와 가족에게 의지해 살며 작품활동을 하는 CYLAND 아티스트들의 이야기 이기도 하다. “The Other Home” 전시는 소비에트 연방 시절때 활발했던 “apartment show”, 즉 아파트에서 정부의 눈을 피해 예술가들이 모여 주최한 전시들을 떠올리며 개인적인 공간과 공공 장소, 일상적인 것과 꿈만같은 환상것인 것들 사이를 탐색하고 있다.

 

비디오 아트 큐레이팅을 맡은 Viktoria Ilyushkina는 우리가 오늘날 생각하는 이란 변화하는 상업적, 문화적, 사회적 문맥상 많이 달라지고 있다고 말했다. 더이상 우리가 태어나고 죽는곳이 아니라 잠시 머무르는 곳이기도 하고 셰어하우스 같은 컨셉이 오래된 베를린 같은 도시는 이란 작은 커뮤니티를 의미하기도 한다. 특히, 이 전시가 열린 Kreuzburg (크로이츠버그)에는 4-5명 모여사는 아파트에서 몇십명 모여사는 Squat 까지 세계 각국에서 온 외국인들이 인터뷰를 거쳐 여러 정치적인면이나 취향, 성격등 맞는 사람들과 함께 생활하는것이 흔하다. 그런 사람들에게 이란 자신의 일이나 아이덴티티의 확장형이다. , 자신의 일부이기도 하며, 하나의 표현이기도 하고, 또 남의 생각이나 영향에 언제든지 반응하고 협력하며 어쩔땐 마찰을 통해 변해가기고하는 그런 활동적인 공간일 수 있다는 것이다. Ilyushkina이라는 공간의 일상적이고 무료함과 무한한 자유를 동시에 지닌 것으로 우리에게 일관성과 안정성을 주기도 하고 때로는 여러 모험과 자아에 실험을 할수도 있는 그런 특별한 곳이라고  강조하고 있다. “은 우리가 현실을 가상화하는 곳이기도 하다고 그녀는 말했다.

Kitchen: Sergey Komarov, Leta and Vla, Alexey Grachev

 

Sergey Komarov는 사운드 아트 프로그램의 큐레이팅도 맡아 하였다. 그는 큐레이터의 서술에 cybernetic (사이버 네틱스, 인공 두뇌학)는 그리스어, kyvernitiki, “행정의 예술”, 또는 통치의 예술에서 나온 말이라고 하였다. 사운드 아티스트인 그에게는 컴퓨터 프로그래밍과 같은 방식으로 음향속의 정보와 규칙들을 우리의 몸속에 흘려 보내는 것은 관객의 감정의 변화를 일으키고 조절하며, 일종의 통치를 하는것으로 여겨진다. 그는 이란 공간을 다시 재정의 하려는 시도를 하였다.

CYLAND MediaArtLab: Russian’s New Media Art nonprofit organization, with headquarters in  St. Petersberg. Largest archive of video art online in Eastern Europe. international initiative of artists, critics, curators, coders, engineers and media activists. World of high technologies require use in art, new understanding of reality, generated by artificial intelligence and flow of information, and having the artists respond.

 

Cyber and Island :   

 

CYLAND MediaArtLab has been officially asked to exhibit in the upcoming sister city event «Berlin Days» in Tokyo from November 29 to 30, 2014. Held at the prestigious Roppongi Hills, «Berlin Days» is a weekend long event bringing together highlighted cultural and startup leaders from Berlin and Tokyo with Japan’s Art/Tech community. As a powerful part of The WYE in Berlin, CYLAND was selected to present a special site specific work created in real time by Elena Gubanova and Ivan Govorkov and the charismatic video work«Jumping Jacks» by Anna Frants. This part of the festival is organized by Moretrax, with art curated by The WYE

 

This year’s theme, “THE OTHER HOME”, explores the commonalities and differentiations among physical, emotional and cultural manifestations attached to the concept of «home». Following the tradition of legendary apartment shows of Soviet time — this exposition explores correlations between public and private, inner and outward, practical and idle, trivial and odd.


“THE OTHER HOME” exhibition at Kunstquartier Bethanien features a survey of contemporary Russian new media art by Marina Alexeeva, Lyudmila Belova, Petr Belyi, Andrey Kuzkin, Katya Bochavar, Elena Gubanova and Ivan Govorkov, Alexander Dashevsky, Marina Koldobskaya, Vladimir Kozin, Peter Lederer, Anna Frants, Petr Shvetsov, Vitaly Pushnitsky, Alexey Grachev, Alexander Terebenin, Alexander Shishkin-Hokusai, Sergey Komarov, Leta & Vladislav Dobrovolsky.

Sound artist Alexander Zaytsev: Alexander Zaitsev, cofounder of the legendary Russian music band Christmas Decorations, is an artist of enormous skill and complex craft, presenting the world premier of new work at Cyberfest 2014. Integrating popular themes and aesthetic exploration, Zaitsev’s new work offers audiences an inverted third-rate serial, a mysterious film noir of short sonic vignettes.
